Cops: Man Driving on Shoulder Charged with Felony DWI
Jesse Scott Lien, 33, of East Hampton was arrested Monday and charged with a felony county of driving while intoxicated, among other charges, after he was stopped for driving in the shoulder on Montauk Highway, according to police.
East Hampton Village police said an officer on routine patrol saw a 1996 white Subaru sedan driving on the westbound shoulder, near the Green Hollow Road intersection around 12:55 a.m.
The arrest report states Lien was asked if he had been drinking, to which he replied, “A couple of beers.” Police said that when he stepped out of the vehicle Lien was unsteady on his feet and he failed all roadside sobriety tests. At headquarters, he refused a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content, according to the arrest report.
Lien was charged with DWI, which was excalated to a felony due to a previous DWI conviction. He was additionally charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, a felony, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and driving on the shoulder, a traffic violation.
