Empire State Cellars at Tanger to Close
Empire State Cellars, a wine and liquor tasting room opened at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead in late 2011, will close its doors for good on December 27.
The shop took advantage of new New York State laws that allow wine, liquor, beer and food to be sold side-by-side, as long as the products are made in the state. Empire State Cellars served as a satellite tasting room for Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue, and carried wine from vintners all over New York as well as spirits, craft beer and hard cider.
Peconic Bay Winery moved all of its tasting room operations to Empire State Cellars in 2013, the same year the winery bottled its last wine.
There are no immediate plans to reopen Empire State Cellars elsewhere.
