‘Mama’s Last Song’ Returns to Southampton Saturday
Mama’s Last Song, a gospel musical by Southampton man Tramar Pettaway, is coming back for a one-night only performance this Saturday evening in Southampton Village at the Hamptons United Methodist Church.
Pettaway wrote the play in memory of his mother, Shonda Pettaway, who died in 2013 at the age of 49 after a long battle with breast cancer. He wrote a story around songs that he played for his mother on his laptop during her final moments.
“Each song played in the show are the songs I listened to during my mom’s transition from earth to glory,” Pettaway said.
Friends, family members and clergy who visited at that time became the basis for characters and guardians angels in the show. The choir in the cast is the same choir that performed at Shona Pettaway’s funeral.
Hamptons United Methodist Church is located at 160 Main Street, Southampton. Showtime is 7 p.m. December 20. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be collected.
