You finally found the perfect outfit for your New Year’s Eve fete, but what to do about your hair? I recently tried Twister, a new, easy-to-use DIY hair curler, to get the perfect tresses with just the right amount of body. Twister comes with quick instructions to create beautiful, loose curls. Best of all, Twister attaches to your blow dryer, drying your hair as it curls, so it’s truly damage free and leaves your hair perfectly healthy. Use it before your big night out, and you’ll be ready for that midnight kiss. For more information, visit forstyler.com.
Wearing a sleeveless dress or a cropped sweater under your winter coat? Keep your skin soft and smooth this winter with DERMAdcotor’s KP Duty Body Scrub. This dual-action exfoliator combines the benefits of a chemical peel and a microdermabrasion into a single, easy-to-use formulation. It’s perfect for all dry skin solutions, and specifically caters to dry, flaky patches of skin associated with keratosis pilaris. Exfoliate twice a week for smooth and radiant skin. This product is dermatologist tested and approved, allergy tested, non-drying, and non-irritating with no animal testing. It is free of fragrance, dye and oil. After a single use, my occasionally bumpy and dry upper arms are smoother than ever. Available at sephora.com.
If you’re throwing a New Year’s Party, you’re going to want Be Mixed, a collection of zero calorie and all-natural cocktail mixers. Simply purchase your preferred alcohol and head to be-mixed.com to find out how to craft the perfect drink. Be Mixed comes in fun, 4 fl. oz. containers, so guests can even DIY their own drink with their favorite holiday liquor. I tried the “ginger honey lime” mixer and all I can say is—delish! The good people at Maui Brand sent our editorial office some samples of their “raw” and “white” sugar recently. We quite liked it. And we loved that it’s domestically sourced—grown 100% in the USA. Available in handy jars and individual packets. Check out the insider tips and recipes at mauisugars.com.
Your favorite “modern general” store in Sag Harbor—Sylvester & Co.—has a new, revamped website at sylvesterandco.com. Now it’s even easier to ogle and shop for the perfect gifts and accessories!
Over the school holiday vacations, you may notice a need to keep your kids or your guests’ kids occupied—and you’ll also want to pry them away from the TV. It’s not easy in the winter, especially when it’s too cold to spend a long time outdoors. Pick up a copy of Tate’s Bake Shop Baking with Kids for a fun and creative solution. Tate’s own Kathleen King began working on her famous chocolate chip cookie recipe when she was just 11 years old. In her stand-up, laminated cookbook, you can make and erase notes as King shares recipes she created especially for junior bakers. You just might have a budding baker in the making! The cookbook includes 20 tried-and-tested recipes as well as tips, basic techniques and more. Available at Tate’s Bake Shop, 43 North Sea Road in Southampton and online at tatesbakeshop.com.
Here’s another creative idea: go to the museum! Holiday Art Workshops take place at the Parrish Art Museum, December 29, 30 and 31. Each day of the three-hour Holiday Art Workshops focuses on a different medium. The theme for Monday, December 29 is painting with watercolor and tempera; Tuesday features sculpture with wood, wire, and modeling clay; and Wednesday’s workshop will focus on collage with mixed media. Children may be enrolled for all three days or fewer. The fee is $40 per session; $30 per session for members of the Parrish Art Museum. Register for the Holiday Art Workshops online at parrishart.org or call 631-283-2118 x130. And all ages are invited to Holiday Fun for Families (no registration required) on December 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
