John Costello Indicted Following Fatal Crash in Greenport
John A. Costello, a 71-year-old Greenport man, was indicted Thursday following a December 6 car crash that left one man dead.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota’s office said a crime lab found Costello’s blood alcohol content was 0.17% after the crash, during which he drove his pickup truck into the oncoming lane on Route 25 in Greenport.
“A passenger in the vehicle Costello struck, Miguel Bartolone, 31, of Peconic, died of his injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital,” the district attorney’s office stated.
Costello faces a top charge of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony. The indictment also charges Costello with driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor assault by recklessly causing injury.
Costello is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on February 11 in Riverhead before State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho.
