In a new public service announcement campaign encouraging safety while riding a train or passing over train tracks, the Long Island Rail Road encourages drivers to “Wait for the Gate,” lest they become a statistic. One PSA warns that it can take a train traveling 60 miles an hour up to a mile to come to a complete stop. So next time you consider driving around the gate at a railroad crossing, just don’t.
