Say “I Do” In The Hamptons

With the majority of weddings occurring between May and August, countless brides-to-be are busy planning their nuptials. It is no surprise that “Lucky Seven,” July 7, 2007, may well be the most fortuitous wedding date of the century. “Without a doubt, brides and grooms want their celebration to be a memorable event,” explains Caroline Scarpinato, special event manager at East Hampton Point. As with any wedding during the upcoming wedding season, it is important to look for new and innovative ways to wow guests.
Destination weddings are more popular than ever. With its incredible agricultural bounty, natural beauty, charming vineyards and fresh-from-the-ocean seafood, Eastern Long Island has become a top choice for couples looking to host their nuptials in a spectacular location. East Hampton offers couples a picture-perfect Hamptons wedding with beautiful, natural surroundings, which provide a wonderful backdrop to their affair.
East Hampton is less than two hours from Manhattan and many wedding venues, such as East Hampton Point, offer breathtaking views of Three Mile Harbor. Some event halls even overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Golden sunsets, sailboats skimming the harbor and flapping nautical flags are just some of the scenes that will help create the panoramic view of the resort you choose. Some venues have on-site outdoor chapels. Some couples choose to wed right on the warm, sandy beaches of the East End. Last year, there was a boom of lavish parties – the cocktail hour at weddings is also becoming an elaborate affair and couples are using the cocktail hour as an opportunity to make the first of many lasting impressions.
Besides imaginatively plated hors d’oeuvres, newlyweds are opting for signature beverages to commemorate their special day. Another new trend gaining momentum is serving “Unity Wine,” which is the result of combining two varietals (one for the bride, one for the groom) that have a special significance. The drinking of the combined wine signifies the commitment couples make to living their lives as one family. This is a French wine country tradition that was observed when two vineyard owners joined in marriage. For this purpose, local North Fork wineries are a wonderful resource to the East End.
Serving local fare from produce and the catch-of-the-day to honey and cheese, is a hallmark of many East End celebrations. The chef at East Hampton Point, Matthew Ross, is inventive and presents a flavorful American cuisine featuring fresh, local produce and seafood. When planning any wedding, customized dining and menu planning are very important to ensure a seamless and stress-free wedding.-
The rise in “green” consciousness is also influencing many weddings. Couples are making choices that support their environmentally-friendly lifestyles and “less is more” approaches when taking the environment into consideration, but in the context of the modern wedding, it presents modest challenges that can be easily overcome.
The demand for “green” products is growing on the East End and, many times, the wedding industry takes advantage of these new green technologies. There are area vendors that offer all the regular accoutrements – with organic flowers, party favors made from recycled materials and even gift registries with ecologically-minded companies.
More mindful transportation is a big goal for some, and it can be achieved in a variety of ways. Many venues offer luxurious guest rooms and suites, like East Hampton Point, which thinks of themselves as the ultimate one-stop-wedding-shop.
East Hampton Village offers much for guests to do, with its architectural and cultural attractions and boutique-lined streets, art galleries, restaurants and the hamlet’s sugar-sand beaches and hiking trails. With all these amenities, East Hampton is a perfect place to create that dream wedding you’ve always wanted.
-East Hampton Point is located at 295 Three Mile Harbor Road, East Hampton. For more information on booking weddings or other events at East Hampton Point, call 631-329-2800 or visit www.easthamptonpoint.com.
