OPENING- The Suffolk Federal Credit Union, a financial cooperative, has opened a new branch on Route 24 and Enterprise Zone Drive in Riverhead. ASTRONOMY JAMBOREE- Enjoy the 28th annual Astronomy Jamboree hosted by the Custer Institute in Southold at 6 p.m. Registration begins. 7:30 pm. Listen to music by ‘Dreamer.’ 9 p.m enjoy a poetry reading led by Bob Chapin. On Saturday at 9:30 a.m. the registration begins. 10 a.m. is workshops, films and talks at Southold High School, including guest speakers George Lomaga, astronomy professor at Suffolk County Community College; David Cohn, director of Tupper Planetarium in Centereach and member of Custer’s Observatory committee; SUNY/Stony Brook professor Kenneth Lanzetta; Tony Hoffman, director of the Amateur Astronomers Association and staff editor, PC Magazine; Dr. David Helfand, chair of Astronomy department at Columbia University, NY; and Dr. Robert Gendler physician and author of ‘A Year in the Life of the Universe.’ Adults, $45; members, $35; senior citizens/students, $25; children under 13, $5. RENAISSANCE FAIR- At 10 a.m. enjoy a renaissance fair at the Hallockville Museum Farm on Sound Ave in Riverhead. to benefit East End Rowing to build a community boat house. This is a non-profit organization. Staff & coaches are volunteers. Head Coach & president is Michelle Zaloom, a two time Olympian. The boathouse will benefit adults and children in the community. PECONIC LAND TRUST- At 10 a.m. enjoy a Forest Ecology Hike with naturalist Mark Terry at the McQuade property on Sound Avenue in Riverhead. CROP WALK FOR HUNGER- From 1-4 p.m. head down to the annual CROP Walk for Hunger hosted by Southold Presbyterian and Methodist churches. Event starts with registration at noon at the Presbyterian church and ends at Methodist church. NOVEMBER 3 GREET THE HARVEST- It’s time to greet the harvest moon at the Soundview Restaurant in Greenport. The Southold West Branch of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary hosts its Annual Autumn Benefit beginning at 6:30 pm. All are invited to join the festivities, which include cocktails, dinner and dancing to the easy listening sounds of DJ Ed Wright.
