Take Five 2006 with Jan SilverThis is the last “Take Five” for 2006 before I gear up for holiday shopping and then hunker down after the New Year with a load of books I’ve been wanting to read. Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally a family-and-friends time on the East End, so there are several special performers and children’s theater troupes here this weekend. Get a start on holiday shopping at the Parrish Art Museum “Parrish Presents” weekend and the East Hampton Historical Society’s Holiday House Tour. Barbara Cook, the undisputed empress and interpreter of the Great American Songbook, performs at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday evening, and contemporary singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III is at Amagansett’s Stephen Talkhouse on Friday night, and the Chuk Fowler trio tonight and Saturday, plus the New Orleans Society Orchestra (jazz) on Sunday at Estia Cantina. “The Picture Show” at Bay Street Theatre screens the original Alien on Friday and the sequel Aliens on Saturday night. If you like to dance, the Sag Harbor’s Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS) is having a “You Should Be Dancing” party on Saturday at JL East on Montauk Highway, East Hampton. DJs will be spinning popular dance tunes from the 1960s through today’s hits. The dancing starts at 8 p.m. and will continue until 12:30 a.m. Admission is a $20 donation at the door – and you’ll be helping LVIS projects as well as your physique. MUSIC Loudon Wainwright III, the contemporary folksinger/songwriter (and father of Rufus), will perform at Stephen Talkhouse, the cozy club on Main St., Amagansett, on Friday at 8 p.m. ($35).
