Police BlotterSpeed and Speeding A man in Sag Harbor was pulled over by a police officer after he was caught speeding. Police arrested the speedster for possession after they found a small amount of speed in his car. * * * Sounds Fishy Police in Hampton Bays went on the hunt for a thief after a man reported that 35 to 40 pounds of blackfish had been stolen from his holding pen in early December. Police have not ruled out the possibility of a very hungry cat getting into the pen. Criminal ties to the Seafood Mafia are being investigated. * * * Clam Arrest A guy in Southold was arrested for two counts of third-degree burglary. The man is being accused of stealing clams from a private garage on two separate occasions. Police are considering putting him in the witness protection program because of the strong threats that have been coming from The Seafood Mafia. * * * The Hamptons Grinch Somebody in Hampton Bays stole an inflatable snowman and two Christmas penguins, worth about $100, from a gas station. Frosty’s parents are devastated. * * * Opposite Day A man in Montauk reported to police that an adhesive sealant had been sprayed on all of the doors and six of the windows on his house. The adhesive sealant hardened and made all of the locks where it was sprayed useless. According to police, there was no other damage done like this to any other homes nearby. Usually, crooks try to break into a home. Out in Montauk, they do what they can to keep themselves out. * * * Pink Camera A pink digital camera was reported to East Hampton Police as lost. Police took a look in their lost and found, but did not find a pink digital camera. However, they did find some pink underwear. * * * Bills Paid??? Two bills, one for $2,500 and the other for $3,500, were paid by an East Hampton woman without her permission, via her online bank account. The payments were cancelled and the incident is under investigation. No word on whether or not the woman is going to actually pay her bills. * * * $125,000 Approximately $125,000-worth of paintings were reported stolen from a house in Water Mill last week. Two of the paintings were by “very famous” European artists, 18th century British artist William Hogarth and late-19th and early-20th Century French artist, Maurice de Vlaminck. The incident was reported to police by the caretaker of the home – the owner of the home was notified later. When something like this happens in the Hamptons, it generally reminds all of us how ridiculously rich some of the homeowners here are. – Written and compiled by David Lion Rattiner
