South O’ the Highway (and the North too)Local writer and director Todd Robinson’s newest film, Lonely Hearts, opens in New York City and Los Angeles on April 13. The film, starring John Travolta, Salma Hayek, James Gandolfini, Jared Leto, Scott Caan and Laura Dern, follows the true story of Robinson’s grandfather, a Westhampton Beach resident who becomes a famous homicide detective. Scenes from the film were shot in Sag Harbor and in the original Westhampton Beach home of the subject. * * * Last week, East Hampton resident Ralph Lauren was presented with the very first American Fashion Legend Award from the Council of Fashion Designers. Frequent Hamptons visitor and President of the Council Diane Von Furstenberg announced the nominees for the awards, and top designers Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, Nicole Miller, Italo Zucchelli of Calvin Klein, Ducky Browne and Michael Kors were there to celebrate and accept their own awards. Accessories legend Robert Lee Morris received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. * * * Comedienne Paula Poundstone, named one of Comedy Central’s “100 Greatest Standup Comedians of All Time,” has just been added to the schedule of the upcoming Bay Street Theatre Comedy Series. * * * As the new face of Jill Stuart, Long Island native Lindsay Lohan will model the brand’s clothes during a ten-day photo session beingshot in Japan this week. * * * East Hampton conductor Victoria Bond performed with composers Libby Larsen, Judith Shatin and Kenji Bunch alongside weaver Pamela Topham in conjunction with Woven Sounds, an exploration of the relationship between composing music and weaving, at Symphony Space in New York City on April 9. Other concerts in the series will include performances and exhibits by Maxine Neuman, Kenji Bunch, Philip Glass, Cornelius Dufallo, Jack Lenor Larsen, Tobias Picker, Laura Kaminsky, Susan Martin Maffei and Archie Brennan. * * * Local actor Bobby Abid was at The Plumm in New York City last week celebrating Rita Cosby’s departure from MSNBC. Photographer James Edstrom was there to make sure everything ran smoothly, and Rita’s beau, Tomaczek Bednarek, Dr. Judy Kuriansky, Alistair Duncan, Lis Wiehl, Mickey Sherman, Contessa Brewer, Chris Jansing, Alison Stewart, Bill Murray and Randy Jones were all there to make sure that she had a great time. * * * Hamptons designer Jackie Rogers will be showcasing her Fall 2007 collection over brunch at The International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida on Sunday, April 15. Jackie just launched her new collection of little black dresses, which will be a fraction of the cost of pieces in her usual couture collection. * * * East Hampton’s Michael Lynne, co-CEO of New Line Cinema, art collector, Guild Hall trustee and owner of the North Fork’s Bedell Cellars has just beat out five other finalists to have his Bedell Merlot featured aboard all American Airlines transcontinental flights. Bedell was also just named one of the country’s 10 Hottest Small Brands by Wine Business Monthly. * * * Hamptonite and supermodel Christie Brinkley is putting her four-bedroom, two-bath oceanfront home in Water Mill on the market. The home is being listed with Susan Breitenbach, senior vice president of The Corcoran Group. Brinkley reportedly owns over $60 million-worth of real estate on Long Island (and elsewhere) with her ex-husband, Peter Cook. * * * Westhampton Beach resident and award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch celebrated the site acquisition for the expansion of Rabbi Marc Schneier’s The New York Synagogue. Dr. Mona Ackerman hosted the encore piano recital and dinner. Approximately 130 attended this wonderful and very successful event, which was orchestrated by chairs Barbara and Irvin Goldman and co-chairs Sandra Cahn, Jerilyn Kronen, Risa Pulver and Adam Tantleff. * * * Producer and playwright Stewart Lane of East Hampton was among those-at the book party for Ward Morehouse III at New York’s Buckingham Hotel last week.- Other attendees included Joe Franklin, actress Laura Bell Bundy and singer Cristina Fontanelli. * * * North Fork wine expert George Eldi (of Frederick Wildman & Sons) is hosting a wine, sushi and sake tasting at East Hampton’s The Lodge restaurant on Race Lane on April 11. |
