CMEE Wild World Exploreres Alive Adventure Summer

Tucked away on the Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor Turnpike is a world of exploration and imagination that celebrates the history, beauty and creativity of the East End of Long Island. Let your child loose at the Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE – pronounced “see me”) this summer where they can discover, delight in and dream up new creations, ideas and adventures. At CMEE, the summer is brimming with very cool fun.

CMEE is having a Wild World Explorers Alive Adventure Summer – even the title is packed with possibilities. Unlimited learning, endless fun and countless surprises – with nothing holding them back, children won’t be able to resist! These six, weeklong sessions of workshops from July 9 through August 17, leave no stone unturned and challenge children to two activities each day. Photography, architecture, bookmaking, foods from around the world, mask-making, acting, world crafts, sculpture – take a deep breath and keep reading! – paper arts, gardening, East End artists, storytelling and – though you may not believe it – even more adventures to choose from for kids that open up worlds right under their noses and around the globe. Activities will be paired together under a theme, inviting kids to explore nature and “dig it” with gardening or spotlighting creativity with acting and paper arts.

For burgeoning artists and fans of the bizarre and humorous, The Charles Addams Festival: Cartooning Camp for Kids is held at Charles Addams’ old home in Sagaponack to the curious eyes and creative hands of East End children – this is the only time that his old haunts are open to visiting children. Two weeklong cartooning workshops, guided by a respected illustrator and cartoonist, teach 8-13 year olds drawing and cartooning techniques and how to develop their own characters. Original works by the renowned American cartoonist Charles Addams, whose work appeared for decades in The New Yorker and many individual collections, are used as study guides. The children receive Certificates of Cartooning for their participation.

And for children of all ages, follow CMEE’s rainbow walkway to the Arlene and Alan Alda Amphitheater to experience an eclectic showcase of events to dazzle and entertain. Wednesday Sunsets at CMEE invites families to kick back, cool off and get lost in performances beneath the open sky, in the lush grass-covered seating surrounding the stage. Live performances have included flamenco dancers, magic shows, steel pan bands and improv comedy – something different each week to leave you dancing, singing or just plain astonished. Additionally, adults and families can spend a night under the stars with the stars during Walk-in and Drive-In Movies – featuring both family films and classic favorites. Last summer’s flicks ranged from Casablanca and The Birds to E.T. and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Another way to maximize your summer fun is by becoming a member of CMEE? Membership gives you and your family discounted rates for workshops, classes, events, performances and even gift shop purchases, keeping admission and fees light and breezy for all the summer fun. Whether your child attends a wild workshop or your family takes in a whimsical show in the Amphitheater, the summer line-up at CMEE will take your mind off the heat, the worries off your mind and your imaginations to new adventures – on the East End and beyond.

See you at CMEE!
