FRIDAY, MARCH 16

JOHNNY B AND FRIENDS- At 8 p.m. at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in Riverhead check out the Johnny B and Friends act. Two bands will perform on the main stage and one acoustic band will be playing in the cabaret room. Tickets are $20. Advance sales by calling 631-727-0900 or 631-727-2656.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC- ‘The Sound of Music,’ presented by Southold High School Drama Club. Showtimes: Thursday-Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m. 631-765-3701.

PUPPIES!- Atlantis Marine World will host the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind reception at 11:00 a.m. when its Puppy Walker Program expands to include the Aquarium in its off-site training classes. 631-208-9200.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17

TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC CONCERT- Featuring Stephen and Susan Sanfilippo at Custer Institute in Southold. Corned beef and cabbage dinner at 6 p.m. Concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $15, members $10. Children are free. Observing and refreshments follow concert. Contact 631-765-2626.

ADOPT-A-THON- From noon to 4 p.m. the St. Patrick’s Day Adopt-a-thon at Petco in Riverhead sponsored by S.A.V.E.S. Children wearing green and get a prize. On March 20 get a free spay day at Kent Spay Clinic in Calverton. 631-727-7797.

IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN- Atlantis Marine World, Long Island’s own full-scale Aquarium, is located in downtown Riverhead on 3.2 acres along the scenic Peconic River. Each month, Atlantis Marine World invites its guests on a adventure of exploration, discovery, and family fun with themed events, activities, and exhibits on the weekends and over school breaks. This month, all things lean toward green at Atlantis Marine World. Join us for green-focused fun – including a green animal scavenger hunt that will show you “It’s Not Easy Seeing Green!” Complete with experiments and interactive presentations, crafts, story times, and a scavenger hunt, the dates are: March 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31. Special focus tanks will be available for viewing daily. 631-208-9200.

MEDIEVAL TO MODERN- At 4 p.m. the North Fork Arts Project presents and exhibition tour and talk called “Medieval to Modern: Painting Toward a Book of Hours” led by Ellen Weiner at ArtSites in Riverhead. Ms. Weiner will speak about her pilgrimage and the Medieval Book of Hours as they relate to her art. Call 631-591-2401.

THEATER AT MATTICUK LIBRARY- 2:30 p.m. Local Theater and Dinner sponsored by Sundays with Friends.  Matinee performance of “Lunch Hour” at North Fork Community Theater with four course dinner afterwards.  $25 for Friends members; $30 for non-members.  Dinner only is $20 for Friends; $25 for non-members. HONOR THE FALLEN- From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the North Fork People of Conscience at Southold Recreation Center in Peconic, check out a memorial of almost 200 photograpic panels showing faces of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Call 631-298-4912.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE- 2 p.m. check out the St. Patrick’s Day parade that starts at Cox Lane and heads west to Case’s Lane in Cutchogue, with five fire departments, school bands, local businesses, animals and more. Sponsored by Cutchogue-New Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Cutchogue Fire Department. Call 631-734-5959.

COMING UP

MARCH 20 NORTH FORK AUDUBON SOCIETY- 8 a.m. Tom Damiani speaks at the Arshamomaque Pond Preserve. You can enjoy looking for early migrant birds. Members $3, non members $5. March 21 at 10 a.m. is a free the trees program with Tom. Members $3, nonmembers $5. Go to www.northforkaudubon.org.

SATURDAY MARCH 24 POTATO FESTIVAL- The merchants of Love Lane in Mattituck hope to once again celebrate its harvest. From 11 am until 3 pm, the Love Lane Group of the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the first annual potato festival on Love Lane. All along the street, restaurants, galleries, and shops will offer special promotions and products to show appreciation for this staple crop. 631-298-8989.
