SOUTHAMPTON POLICE OFFICER INDICTED ON 14 CHARGESOn Wednesday, March 4, Southampton Town Police Officer Guy Giammatteo was charged with 14 separate offenses, including four counts of bribe receiving, which is a felony, three counts of second degree coercion and seven counts of official misconduct, both misdemeanors. Officer Giammatteo has been accused of revealing the time and place of narcotics investigations to one woman in exchange for fellatio and sex, revealing confidential information regarding the identities of officers involved in undercover narcotics and alcohol investigations to a Southampton club owner on two separate occasions. He was also charged with failing to execute warrants for another woman’s arrest, also in exchange for fellatio and sex. He was also accused of responding in uniform to a domestic incident at a woman’s home and exposing himself to her, then pulling her over in her car later that week to tell her not to report the incident. Giammatteo pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $10,000 cash bail. He is currently suspended with pay from the police force. His attorney, William Keahon, of Islandia, stated that the charges brought against his client are a ploy by murderer Danny Pelosi to destroy Officer Giammatteo’s family life from behind bars. Officer Giammatteo is married to Mr. Pelosi’s sister, Joan. We depend on police officers for protection. Their job is dangerous and many officers perform above and beyond what is expected of them. We presume that where it turns out there is one bad apple, the matter will swiftly be made right in the courts. — SM |
