Whispers: Star-Spangled Hamptons

By Gina Glickman

It’s possible director Woody Allen never experienced the same kind of anonymity walking around the Hamptons as he does in New York City. The director admitted, “I bought a very, very beautiful house in Southampton, and I spent over a year fixing it up. I put in trees, I changed the roof; I mean, I did an incredible job. Then I went out there one night and I slept in it, and I never came back.” Yet, New York may be the only city Allen can blend in. This past Independence Day, Woody Allen was in Rome, far away from the parade of patriotic locals that marched across Jobs Lane. Yet, Allen still managed to be spotted and photographed shopping in Fendi with is his wife Soon Yi and daughters Manzie Tio and Bechet. Rome is the backdrop for Allen’s latest movie project, The Bop Decameron, starring Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. The film is set to feature four vignettes, one of which will highlight an American couple with the husband played by Allen, who travel to Italy to meet the family of their daughter’s fiancé.

Now, the Hamptons may not be Woody Allen’s great escape destination, but this past holiday weekend several celebrities came out to sparkle alongside the East End. [expand]

Friday evening, Eli Manning and friends Thomas and Chrissy Hughes kicked off the holiday weekend dining at Savanna’s restaurant in Southampton. Sunday, Rosario Dawson hit the town with her mom at the “Hyde Comes To AXE Lounge” party dancing with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Dawson currently starring alongside Kevin James in Zookeeper donned a Dolce & Gabbana jumper and a fresh band-aid on her knee because “apparently even playing a crack-head in a movie is hazardous for your health.” Earlier in the evening singer & songwriter Estelle gave an exclusive performance for the Moet BBQ at the Paige Estate in Sag Harbor. Across town, CÎROC Ultra Premium Vodka and Brandsway Creative launched the opening weekend of the CÎROC Cabana Club. Twilight star, Kellan Lutz, Beverly Hills Housewife Taylor Armstrong, Sonja Morgan, Rick & Kathy Hilton, Rev Run, Supermodel Jessica Hart, Julissa Bermudez, DJ Mel Debarge, Jesse Marco, DJ Ruckus, and Georgica’s Seth Levine enjoyed the pool-side festivities before heading over to East Hampton’s Georgica Restaurant & Lounge. Ronald Perelman’s East Hampton estate The Creeks played host to a Cinema Society screening of The Help. Guests included, Howard and Beth Stern, Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, Donna Karan, Gayle King, Russell Simmons, Ellen Pompeo, Tamara Mellon, Kyle MacLachlan and Desiree Gruber. Scott and Lori Sobel hosted an intimate soiree whose guests included Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz, Alex Rodriguez, Chris Bosh and fiancée, Adrienne Willliams. The oceanfront celebration included a live intimate performance by Pete Yorn.
