Ask the Expert: Stepping Stones to Wellness
Even life in the Hamptons can use a little help from time to time. Everyone has questions about ways to improve your life, your health, your sense of well-being—so we turned to life specialist Joyce Philbin-Collier for some answers.
The Question: I have read several books on the Law of Attraction but still feel nothing new has happened in my life. What am I doing wrong?
The Answer from Joyce Philbin-Collier: Begin by realizing you have taken the first step—seeking knowledge.
The power to bring forth your dreams is under the direct control of your subconscious mind. The subconscious does not reason for itself. It takes the conscious thoughts we have each day and produces outcomes as a result of those conscious thoughts. Here’s the glitch. When your conscious mind says, I don’t have a car, money, a relationship, etc. I want these things. I need these things, the subconscious only registers that you don’t have those things. You are magnetically drawing not having those things in your life.
“How you think at the conscious level, makes all the difference. The words you use are vital. When you hear yourself speaking in terms of lack, cancel them out and reverse them to abundance.”—Robert Collier, Secret of the Ages
The Question: I am 55 years old and have suffered with chronic fatigue for more than ten years. I have exhausted all the conventional and holistic methods, to no avail. What more can I do?
The Answer from Joyce Philbin-Collier: There is an important place for both conventional as well as holistic methods of healing. There is an equally important place for the way you think. Whatever procedure you are undergoing, the thoughts you have before, during and after the procedure will make a world of difference. If you think it won’t/can’t work, then it will not work. Visualize yourself in the positive, as healed with each procedure or treatment. The repetitive practice of this feeds your subconscious and will eventually release long-held, deep-seated beliefs of illness and failure that your subconscious has held onto for so long. Start to think differently and you will be able to draw healing, strength and abundance into your life.
The Question:My children are grown and I am thinking about going back to school. I am so afraid of looking strange with all the young college students. I won’t have anything in common with them and I don’t know if I will be able to keep up with the workload. Can you make any suggestions to help me get through my fears?
The Answer from Joyce Philbin-Collier: The greatest thing that keeps anyone from achieving their desire is fear. If you say you can’t, you won’t. If you allow fear to be all you think about, then you will never get to the point where you want to be. You are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to. You can’t control what the other students say or do, but if you tap into that power within you, and focus on what it is that you want to achieve, your subconscious will receive your desire to learn and will guide you up the path of achievement. If you are your true self without fear, others will be drawn to you and you will find that what you feared was only an illusion.
