Long Island Artists Ready to Shake Up the Hamptons
The first can’t-miss art show of the Hamptons holiday season is here, and Davenport Shapiro Fine Arts in East Hampton just might shake up the Hamptons art scene like a snow globe with Release & Emergence—an exhibition of the cutting-edge works of Eddie Rehm and Emanuel Buckvar.
“This work is very on-the-cusp, it is something the Hamptons typically does not see,” says Howard Shapiro, co-owner of the gallery. “But because it is striking, and we are committed to bringing our clients high quality, investment grade art, we just had to work with these emerging artists.”
The exhibition will feature the newest individual works by the artists, who have started to collaborate because they have a similar impetus for their work despite having distinctive creative styles.
“Both of them have only recently started to show their work and push the art scene further, but the response from collectors and art enthusiasts has been phenomenal,” adds gallery co-owner Len Davenport. “I think their message speaks to a lot of people today.”
Both Rehm and Buckvar are from the south shore of Long Island, but they don’t paint typical Long Island artist subject matter. “They have a raw, uncensored New York City feel, and have started to migrate into the artistic circles in the city because of this,” says Shapiro.
“Both of them have a style that is unique, raw, and refreshing,” Shapiro adds. “It’s only a matter of time before the whole world knows who these artists are.”
About the Artists:
Eddie Rehm is one of the hottest new artists to emerge in a long time. His work has been described by art critics and analysts as “a fusion of raw emotion, deliberately instinctual design, and art-medium experimentation.” He has participated in over 30 shows this year alone with numerous solo exhibitions, displaying in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Pennsylvania, as well as many local Art Leagues and Associations. His work will also be displayed in the upcoming 2011 Art Basel Miami, along side internationally renowned contemporary artists.
Emanuel Buckvar is an outsider artist who paints with pure expressive passion. Surrounded by his grandparent’s fantastic art growing up, he was always interested in art and at a young age became an art dealer. But soon buying and selling art was not enough and he started to create his own. This is his first major exhibition. His works are held in esteemed private collections around the country.
