Where in the World Is Jennifer Lopez?
What a week for Water Mill resident Jennifer Lopez. The singer-actress-mogul nearly incited a whiplash epidemic, turning so many heads at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in New York City. Her new celebrity line of clothing, jewelry and home goods was cited by Kohl’s as a key reason company profits were up 20 percent in the last quarter. Her return to the judge’s seat on American Idol on Fox in January continues to be one of TV’s most anticipated events. And US magazine reported that she’s dating dancer Casper Smart.
But none of that is generating excitement like the news that Lopez is in talks to produce and possibly even star in a live-action, big-screen version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Whether you were a kid, parent or just a pop culture junkie in the 1990’s, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? had to be a favorite. The clever kids show and video game about the legendary Carmen—who left the ACME Detective Agency and formed the Villains’ International League of Evil with the goal of stealing geological sites around the world—was as educational as it was entertaining. And it screamed, Make me into a movie!
Disney reportedly tried to develop a Carmen Sandiego film for Sandra Bullock in the late 1990s, but it went the way of the dodo. And that’s just fine with us. Not that we don’t love Sandra, but we’d travel the world over to see Jennifer Lopez as Carmen—especially if she sings along with Rockapella on the theme song! And has the movie premiere here in the Hamptons.
