A Celebration of East End Yachting Sets Sail in Quogue

Perhaps the greatest asset of the East End is the beauty of our waters—the bays, creeks and ocean— that have enabled residents to ply their crafts—sail boats, powerboats, kayaks—for generations. A celebration of our boating history would not be complete without including the Shinnecock Yacht Club, which this year marks its 125th anniversary—a milestone that makes it one of the oldest continuously operating yacht clubs in the United States.

The Club’s charter includes the stewardship of our waters and the encouragement of sailing as a sport among the children of Quogue and the surrounding environs. Many generations of local children have learned sailing and boat safety in classes at the Shinnecock Yacht Club. That history and ongoing stewardship is celebrated in this exhibit of paintings, contemporary and historic photographs and yachting memorabilia that reflect our boating heritage.

Exhibit opens Tuesday, July 3, from noon–5 p.m., at Art Gallery at the Quogue Library, 90 Quogue Street, Quogue. Exhibit on display from July 3 through July 30.
