A Healthy Start to Hot Yoga on the East End
The weather may be starting to cool a bit, which makes it the perfect time for your focus on healthy living to heat up. A common thought many of you may be having is likely, Are there any health restrictions if I wanted to begin Hot Yoga?
If you find yourself asking this question, you most likely already have an issue in mind that concerns you. So you may either consult with your Yoga instructor or your health practitioner before starting your hot practice.
Yoga has benefits for many ailments or “dis-eases” you may have. But individuals using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their practitioner for any possible changes in the drugs’ effects when the body is exposed to high heat and/or elevated body temperatures. Recent acute joint injuries should also steer clear of the Hot Room for the first 48 hours after injury. Heat will only aggravate and swell the joints of injury more. Stay home and ice your injury, and when you feel well enough to do physical activity then try your Yoga practice.
Those with insensitivity to heat, fever or infection and hemophiliacs should avoid the Hot Yoga room as well. But don’t let this discourage you from getting physical. Seek out a traditional beginner’s yoga class. Hatha yoga is a great place to start, and if that’s easy enough then move on to a more active style such as Vinyasa or Ashtanga.
