Riverhead Closer to Establishing 9/11 Memorial Park

RIVERHEAD: Suffolk County officials have announced that a 9/11 memorial park on Sound Avenue in Riverhead, long championed by local residents, could become a reality over the next few months.
At a memorial service held in honor of late Reeves Park resident Thomas Kelly, a New York City firefighter who died in the World Trade Center attacks, county officials revealed that they have a tentative timeline for creating the park. The 4.1 acre site would be at the intersection of Sound Avenue and Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive/Park Road, and the park could be established as early as this time next year.
The park is expected to feature a memorial garden and seating to be used for quiet contemplation.
