LPGA Golf Stars Tee Off in Southampton
The cloudy skies may not make it seem like the perfect golf day on the East End, but golfers Sara Brown, Jimin Kang, Irene Cho and Cristie Kerr filled the early afternoon with radiant energy at Sebonack Golf Course in Southampton—the site of the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open—at the kick-off event for the prestigious tournament’s Long Island debut next spring. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, Sebonack will host the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open from June 24 through June 30, the first time that the Open has been played on Long Island and the first time since 1973 that the event will be held in New York State.
“It’s beautiful. It’s going to be a great venue for an open,” says Brown, who along with the other golfers hit the links despite the rain (they’ll be back this evening for a celebratory cocktail party). “I think that’s going to make for a fun impact on the fans, the golfers and everybody spectating. It’s really cool to just have us here…The men have played out here a lot [Shinnecock and Bethpage Black] and it’s exciting to have the ladies.”
