Hamptons Gas Update—Finding Fuel on the East End

UPDATE (3:44 p.m. 11/7): The USA station at 1446 Flanders Road in Flanders was filling tanks with less than a five-minute wait at 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday.

UPDATE (1:55 p.m. 11/7): Hess on County Road 39 in Southampton received a shipment of fuel and began filling tanks around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday. Sunoco on County Road 39 in  Southampton also had gas as of 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

East Hampton finally started seeing some gas available on Tuesday, November 6. Empire at 148 North Main Street in East Hampton had gas at 8:20 p.m. and no one has reported that they’re out. Getty on County Road 41 in EH also had gas around noon on Tuesday.

Hess  at 346 Montauk Highway in Wainscott had gas as of 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Shell at 701 Montauk Highway in Montauk was filling tanks as of 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Water Mill, which has had gas fairly regularly, had no available fuel as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Hess on Montauk Highway in Water Mill was filling tanks with an orderly and organized line and waits as short as 10 minutes around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Bridgehampton also had no fuel on Wednesday afternoon.

No fuel was reported available in Sag Harbor  as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Riverhead continued to have gas relatively widely available, including two Hess stations and BP on Old Country Road and Gulf on Osborne Avenue and Old Country Road as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

UPDATE (10 a.m. 11/6): As of 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Hess and Shell on Montauk Highway in Water Mill are both filling tanks. Lines are orderly and the waits are reportedly as short as 15 minutes. Shell has a $50 limit on fuel purchases.

Both Mobile and Gulf on County Road 39 in Southampton have fuel. Waits are also as short as 15 minutes, but only regular grade gas is available at Mobile.

No fuel is available yet in Bridgehampton.

Shell at 701 Montauk Highway in Montauk had gas as of 9 a.m. and the line was only five cars long. No gas was reported available elsewhere in East Hampton Town.

Hess at 239 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays had fuel as of 9:35 a.m. Tuesday morning. Riverhead appears flush with gas, as multiple stations are pumping, including Citgo on Main Street, Shamrock and Valero on Flanders Road, Valero on Peconic Avenue and Empire, Hess and BP on Old Country Road.

No updated reports were available from the North Fork Tuesday morning.

UPDATE (4:40 p.m.): As of 3:47 p.m., Hess at 1138 Montauk Highway in Water Mill had 1,357 gallons of gasoline, according to GasBuddy.com.

As of 4 p.m. on Monday, the Gulf gas station at 10 County Road 39 and North Sea Road in Southampton is out of gas and no longer filling tanks.

UPDATE: As of 2:40 p.m. on Monday, the Gulf gas station at 10 County Road 39 and North Sea Road in Southampton was still filling tanks. The line stretched down North Sea Road past McDonald’s, but it was moving in a smooth organized fashion and the wait appeared to be bearable.

The post Sandy gas shortage is wreaking havoc in the Hamptons, on the North Fork and all across Long Island, as many residents face the possibility of losing their primary mode of transport and not making it work. A large percentage of people are still without power, but those with access to computers and the internet are using Facebook to find available fuel.

Local commuters have reported long lines at the pumps that do have gas, but the East End pumps have remained mostly dry.

As of 11:30 a.m. Monday morning, GasBuddy.com, a good site for finding gas prices and availability, reported that the Gulf station at 10 County Road 39 and North Sea Road was the only station with fuel in Southampton. Hess at 1138 Montauk Highway in Water Mill was pumping gas as of 9:14 a.m. Monday.

At 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, the Facebook group “Where to find GAS on Long Island” reported short lines at Sunoco in Wading River/Calverton and BP in Ridge, as well as a 40-minute wait at the Gulf station on Carlton Avenue in Islip Terrace and a 34-minute wait at Hess on Newbridge and Jerusalem in Bellmore.

The Gulf station on the corner of 25A and 107 in Old Brookville was pumping gas at 7 a.m. Monday morning.

Near the North Fork, Valero at 415 Flanders Road in Riverhead was pumping gas as of 11:40 a.m. on Monday, with very organized lines. Shamrock at 301 Flanders Road in Riverhead also had regular grade gas as of 11:40 a.m., but it was reportedly less organized and running out quickly.

Valero at 28975 Main Road in Cutchogue had fuel on Sunday.
