Springs Self-Help Guru Tim Ferriss Launches “4-Hour Chef” in NYC
Springs native, author and self-help guru Tim Ferriss released his new book The 4-Hour Chef with a media blitz in Manhattan on Tuesday.
A follow up to Ferriss’ New York Times best sellers, The 4-Hour Workweek and The 4-Hour Body, his latest—complete title: The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life—uses cooking to demonstrate what he calls “meta-learning,” a step by step process that can be employed to master just about anything. The book is loaded with tips on how to master a variety of skills as efficiently as possible, including folding a shirt, memorization, improving your golf swing, shooting a three-pointer, sign language and, of course, all kinds of kitchen tricks.
“It’s 672 pages of full-color goodness that required blood, sweat, and tears (literally) for nearly two years,” Ferriss wrote on his blog the morning of launch. “Putting it together was brutal. In the end, I think it’s the best book I’ve written, a very unusual choose-your-own-adventure guide to learning and life.”
He was scheduled to appear on “The Dr. Oz Show,” followed by his only New York City book signing at Panera Bread, located at 452 5th Avenue (at 39th Street), from 3-6 p.m. Additionally, Ferriss said all cabs in Manhattan would be running a 15-second version of his 4-Hour Chef cinematic trailer to promote the book and, as he put it, “carpet bomb the city.” He noted that the trailer already had nearly 1.5 million views and is now the “most-viewed non-fiction book trailer of all time.”
Finally, Ferriss partnered with TaskRabbit to automate grocery shopping and make the ingredients from his recipes in the book’s first section available at the click of a button.
Ferriss did not say whether or not he’d be visiting his family in Springs for the Thanksgiving holiday.
