East End Recognized as Wine Travel Destination
Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Long Island’s East End a wine travel destination for 2013 on Tuesday.
The story calls the Twin Forks wine country “a unique amalgam of metropolitan influences against a core of hearty, agricultural tradition” and “unlike any region in America.” Check it out at www.winemag.com to read the magazine’s choices of where to dine, where to stay, where to taste and when to go, plus a list of some prominent wines, a budget tip, other activities and a local in-the-know.
We agree with Wine Enthusiast’s assertion that “Summer is glorious [on the East End], but autumn is also prime,” thanks to the cornucopia of fresh local fare at area farm stands and fish markets on the South and North Forks.
While it recognizes that Long Island has always been prime Merlot country, the magazine also notes promise in East End Cabernet Franc, Chardonnays, a handful of Sauvignon Blancs, traditional method sparkling wines and even a quality Chenin Blanc.
