Sex and the City Prequel Debuts on the CW
The Carrie Diaries, a new show based on the popular young adult novels by Hamptons regular Candace Bushnell, premiered on the CW this week. The books and TV series chronicle the early years of Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw.
The show, which premiered on January 14, airs Mondays at 8 p.m. and features AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw, “a wide-eyed 16 year old who, after the death of her mother, finds herself navigating through the ups and downs of high school life with a close-knit group of friends in suburban Connecticut, along with her new glamorous life in Manhattan.” Let’s hope that, like the original Sex and the City, Carrie finds her way out to the Hamptons as well!
Hamptons resident Sarah Jessica Parker, who made the Carrie Bradshaw character a household name, has already given the show her stamp of approval, according to gossip blogger Perez Hilton. While SJP had no direct role in counseling her younger counterpart about playing Carrie, she has given Robb her full support. “She sent me a very lovely note kind of giving me her blessing and encouraging me and saying how dear the part was for her,” Robb told TVLine.com in a recent interview.
Monday’s premiere episode gave viewers their first glimpse of the young Carrie and set the stage for a show that will be rife with awesome retro 80s music and all the great, and fantastically terrible, fashion from that decade. After all, Manolo Blahnik was already selling shoes by then.
