Bruce Wolosoff Composes New Ballet

Shelter Island composer Bruce Wolosoff is teaming up with award-winning choreographers Ann Reinking and Melissa Thodos to create a new ballet for Thodos Dance Chicago. A Light in the Dark, the story of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan, is their second full-length contemporary story ballet.
The ballet tells an intimate family story about the extraordinary woman who was deaf and blind yet went on to become a world-famous writer, political activist and inspiration to all. A Light in the Dark is an equally powerful yet more intimate, family- friendly follow-up to the trio’s successful Thodos Dance Chicago collaboration, The White City: Chicago’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, a ballet that chronicles through contemporary dance Chicago’s legendary 1893 World’s Fair. It was named Best Dance 2011 by Chicago Sun-Times.
The new ballet premieres at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Chicago on March 2. Visit harristheaterchicago.org for tickets and scheduling info.
