Here is What it's Like When Some Hamptons Car Nuts Head to the New York Auto Show
Yesterday my Dad and I, along with Steve McKenna (the Publisher of Dan’s Papers) and East End Fine Arts Services videographer Jeff Cully, were at the New York Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center and I cannot even begin to describe how insanely amazing it is there. If you are a car guy, this is your car heaven. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is showcased there in the automotive world.
One of the primary vehicles that we wanted to check out and film was the Hyundai Equus, which is a super luxury vehicle that has an engine with 429 horsepower and is mated to an in-house eight-speed transmission. It’s fast, really, really fast. The model at the auto show is beautiful.
The car is amazing, and my Dad hopped in it to film a video that we will be debuting here on Danshamptons.com this week.
Roaming around the auto show is like being a kid in a candy store. Over in the Land Rover area, which was packed, every new model of Land Rover was on display. The new Land Rover New Range Rover Sport was popular among visitors and we talked about how Land Rover Southampton will have them.
Walking past the Rolls Royce section, I said hello to Oleg Satanovsky or Rolls Royce, who I met a few years ago when I reviewed the Ghost. My Dad was anxious to hop in the new one and get to filming, so we hung out in the Rolls Royce area for a little bit and enjoyed some Pelligrino. It was hard to complain about anything.
Over by the Audi area, which is among my favorite brands of vehicles, mainly because of the cars‘ speed and styling, as well as this. I found myself unable to check out the brand new 2014 Audi A-8. One of the most expensive cars they make.
Audi in Southampton has an impressive inventory of Audis including the S3 and A3 Sedans, which I like a lot. The Audi A3 is available in two powertrain choices, the 2.0 TDI clean diesel or 2.0 TFSI. Both provide impressive power at 140 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque for the TDI, and 200 hp and 207 lb.-ft. of torque for the TFSI. Audi A3 fuel economy is admirable, particularly in the TDI. Both vehicles are equipped with the sporty six-speed S tronic transmission in the automatic, with a six-speed transmission in the 2.0T manual shift version. It’s a really, really nice ride.
Of course, it was impossible to check out everything, but some of the out of this world cars on view this week include a new Bugatti, Lamborghini and McLaren. Everything is there under one roof. It’s incredible. You’ve got to check it out if you can.
