Madonna Puts Bra on Display

Is it really news that Madonna‘s bra will be displayed to the public?
The Hamptons pop diva was back in the headlines this week after her famous conical bra was added to Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective, The Fashion World Of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk, headed to London’s Barbican in 2014.
Madonna‘s iconic bra, designed by Gaultier and made famous during her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, will be displayed alongside other famous Gaultier designs, including garments for Bjork and Kylie Minogue and costumes from The Fifth Element, a film by Luc Besson.
A similar corset/bustier designed by Gaultier for the singer and worn on tour was auctioned by Christie’s for nearly $50,000 in November.
Gaultier and Madonna have worked together for more than 30 years, and the Barbican is displaying several of the pieces he made for her. The retrospective will also include films of the designer’s fashion shows, concerts, dance and his TV show, Eurotrash.
The Fashion World Of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk is a traveling exhibition. It launched in Montreal in 2011 and has been on an international tour, including stops at Dallas Museum of Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Fundación Mapfre—Instituto de Cultura, Madrid, and it’s currently at the Kunsthal Rotterdam in the Netherlands through May 12.
