St. Patty's Day in the Hamptons is Like Childhood Happiness Magically Transported to Adulthood For a Day
St. Patrick’s Day is coming.
Just that one sentence brings joy to my soul.
It means for one, that the beginning of Spring is right around the corner, it means for two, drunken Irish people with moustaches, and it means for three, that I have an excuse to go to a parade and drink Guinness in the middle of the day.
“What do you mean it’s 11:30 in the morning? It’s St. Patrick’s Day!”
What I love about this holiday is that it is all about happiness. The holiday really doesn’t make any sense when you think about it. People of any Irish heritage (I’m 1/4 Irish and 1/4 English on my mother’s side) just infect the rest of the world to smile and be happy. The name of this holiday could easily be called, “For some reason you are going to be ridiculously happy and loud today day.”
Anyway, in the Hamptons, there are big Irish roots, especially in Montauk, so the holiday gets some extra attention out here. Here are some upcoming parades for you to check out, if you want to mark your calendar.
The best ones out here are Montauk’s 51st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. and Hampton Bays‘ parade on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
