Tommy Mottola Brings Gritty NYC Films to Broadway
Hamptons regular and former Sony Music head Tommy Mottola is producing three upcoming Broadway plays. They’ll include musical versions of 1972 blaxploitation film Super Fly and Chazz Palminteri‘s A Bronx Tale, the latter of which will be directed by Robert De Niro. The third play remains a mystery, but Mottola has revealed that it centers on a “super famous” celebrity.
Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones is slated to direct Super Fly and Michael David (producer of Jersey Boys) has also signed on to the project, which will feature a score by “Pusherman” scribe Curtis Mayfield.
A Bronx Tale will be De Niro‘s Broadway directorial debut.
