Anderson Cooper Gets "Swatted" in Quiogue
Quiogue celebrity newsman Anderson Cooper was victim to one of the latest idiotic trends, “Celebrity Swatting,” last month when someone called 911 and falsely reported that a man had shot his wife at Cooper‘s St. George Place address.
The hoax, perpetrated on April 4, brought police cruisers from four local agencies to the scene, according to Westhampton / Hampton Bays Patch. Local police are now seeking to charge the hoaxer, whose call wasted police time and public tax dollars in more than one municipality. Cooper was not in the Hamptons at the time of the incident.
“Celebrity Swatting” is a new trend where pranksters call in fake crimes with the goal of bringing SWAT teams and police to celebrity homes. Ryan Seacrest, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Russell Brand are among the stars who have been victim to the false reports in recent months.
