Hamptons Song of Summer #100
“Summertime” by Billy Stewart
As if the title alone doesn’t say it all, the first words set the tone not just for the tune but for the glory of the season: “Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.” More artists have covered this song from Porgy and Bess than there are beach umbrellas on a July 4th weekend on the East End, but Stewart made it his own with the unmistakable scat stylings that have kept it rat-a-tat-tatting since 1966.
