Weight Loss.
Why does it always seem that everyone we know is always on a diet, trying to lose weight, talking about losing weight or feeling out of shape? In our society we all want to look thin and in shape but do we really think about losing weight for health reasons? Some yes, but mostly no. Not maintaining a healthy weight can greatly increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, some cancers and other conditions such as gallstones, to name a few of the most important ones.
We all want that instant gratification and lose weight immediately. All of us at some point have probably tried a crash diet, diet pills and energy boosters. As you may have learned, they do not work. You may drop a couple of pounds in the beginning, but after a few months gain it all back. The most effective way to lose weight is by making gradual changes in your lifestyle, at a slow and steady pace. This way, your body can get acclimated and you will not have to rely on supplements the rest of your life. There are things you can do on your own to make these changes in a gradual way:
– Reduce your bad caloric intake. Foods that are high in refined sugar, saturated fat and sodium can cause weight gain and water retention. You can always use a sugar substitute like Steviaâ.
– Reduce the amount of calories you take in. An effective way to lose a pound of weight a week is to reduce your daily intake by 500 calories.
– Drink more water. Water helps keep you hydrated, it flushes toxins from your system, it aids in digestion and it has zero calories. It also helps you feel full by distending your stomach.
– Eat a small meal every 2 to 3 hours, instead of three large meals. This will also keep your energy levels high and prevent you from overeating.
– Eat a healthy breakfast. When you skip breakfast your metabolism will stay low and you run the risk of getting hungry later in the day and binging on junk food.
– Exercise. Cardio training is very important, as it increases your heart rate and can help burn significant calories. Secondly, weight training. By working your muscles, you increase your metabolism.
