Westhampton Beach Fire Department Practice in Tear-Down
For the second time in about two weeks, local builder and First Hampton International Realty owner Lawrence Citarelli allowed a local emergency service team to train at his tear-down property on Tanner’s Neck in Westhampton Beach before it is demolished and redeveloped. This time, 25 firefighters from the Westhampton Beach Fire Department practiced different techniques and procedures for entering a burning building.
About two weeks ago, the realtor and builder invited the Southampton Town Police Emergency Service Unit to train there as well. For both groups, the tear-down home on Citarelli’s property provided the perfect, real-world environment for the local firemen and police to gain vital field experience.
The day started with a brief lecture by the Chiefs, including organizer John “Chip” Bancroft, on safety, usage of the ladders and high-powered saws they use to cut open the roof and walls. During the exercises, firefighters cut through walls and put large holes in the roof of the house. A mix of experienced firefighters and newer members were on hand to teach and learn. A ladder truck was also on scene for training. Firefighters worked in teams, one cutting while another helped brace his partner for safety.
“It is important to always to be conscience of ways to give back,” Citarelli said, noting that he believes in karma….whether from our global real estate services company, First Hampton International, our acquisition and development firm, Citadom Holdings or from our award winning design and construction entity, Lawrence III Co.
