Andrew Cuomo, Bon Jovi, Chris Christie Playing Politics in Hamptons
Are we going to look back in a few years and say that a run for the White House in 2016 started on a Sunday night in the Hamptons in 2014? Jon Bon Jovi’s Sunday-evening private fundraising gig in Sagponack for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had at least a few barstool political junkies wondering whether Bon Jovi’s acoustic event could become one of the significant moments in a 2016 Cuomo run for the White House?
Probably not, many experts say, if another Hamptonite, Hillary Clinton, tosses her hat in the ring for the Democratic nomination when Barack Obama is done. Or even should frequent Hamptons visitor Vice President Joe Biden make a bid for the Oval Office, in which case he might be looking for a running mate, right? In any case, it’s never a bad thing for politicians to get in good with the East End elite.
And it doesn’t matter what party you’re in—especially not this weekend. It doesn’t even matter what state you’re from, apparently, as the New Jersey influx to the East End we’ve been seeing continued with New Jersey Governor Chris Cristie, who was also building ties with donors in the Hamptons with a Saturday night fundraiser. Again, ask yourself, might we look back in a few years and say that a run for the White House in 2016 started on a summer night in the Hamptons in 2014?
