Reports: Waterspout Spotted on Great Peconic Bay
A waterspout, which is described as an intense columnar vortex, was spotted on the Great Peconic Bay Friday afternoon. It could be seen from a distance, and some residents of both the North Fork and South Fork snapped photos.
Brendan Byrne sent in this pic above, where the waterspout can be seen on the left side. It was shot at Canal Cafe in Hampton Bays.
Adam Sullo, the officer of the day at the Coast Guard Station in Hampton Bays, said that the station received reports of a waterspout from Southampton Town Bay Constables, who had in turn got calls from residents who said they saw it on the bay. However, no one at the Coast Guard station observed one, so Sullo could not confirm that it was, in fact, a waterspout.
