Tide Runners Plans Farewell Bash Saturday

Tide Runners, a Hampton Bays bar and restaurant, is taking a final bow Saturday, September 28.
The popular spot on the Shinnecock Canal is expected to be knocked down to make way for townhouses, should a proposal by developers Gregg and Mitchell Rechler be approved. The Rechlers are also looking to restore the Canoe Place Inn across the way from Tide Runners. While many residents have spoken out in favor of the overall plan for Hampton Bays, fans of Tide Runners have petitioned Southampton Town to save the restaurant.
Tide Runners was always packed on summer Fridays as local and visitors headed there to meet friends at the bar, listen to music or have dinner — either inside or outside with a view of the canal.
“Although we are so sad that this will be our final season, we wouldn’t have it any other way than to go out with a bang!!” the restaurant states on a Facebook invitation to the farewell party. “Come say goodbye to this historic site, & old friends you may not have seen in awhile. We look forward to celebrating the fun times we have had over the past 11 years!”
Though the restaurant closed for the season September 15, it is opening its doors one last time on Saturday to welcome friends from the past 11 years.
The farewell bash will kick off at 4 p.m. and feature music by Double Play and DJ Mouse from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and a live performance by New Life Crisis and DJ Soco from 10 p.m. till late. (New Life Crisis will headline Southampton SeptemberFest earlier Saturday in Southampton Village.)
