Councilwoman Bridget Fleming Joins in Honoring Gabby Giffords

Southampton Town Councilwoman Bridget Fleming, of Noyac, attended the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee’s Fall Luncheon at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan on October 2, where former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords was among the honorees.
Gifford received the Eleanor Roosevelt Woman of Courage Award. Also recognized at the event were New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Edie Windsor and Roberta A. Kaplan.
Fleming, in past campaigns, has been supported and endorsed by the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee, whose stated mission is to increase women’s participation in New York Democratic politics.
Fleming was able to meet and chat with Giffords, who made an inspiring recovery after being shot in the head during an event with her constituents in January 2011 near Tucson, Arizona. Eighteen others were also shot, including six who died. Giffords resigned from Congress a year later, but during the Democratic National Convention in September 2012 she led the Pledge of Alliance.
