“Glee” Celebrates Music of Billy Joel

Seats for Billy Joel at The Paramount and for his upcoming Madison Square Garden concerts have been tough tickets, but fans recently got to hear music by Sag Harbor’s Piano Man from the comfort of their own couches, as Joel was the subject of the most recent episode of Glee, the Fox musical television series set at fictional McKinkley High.
To teach students a lesson on perseverance in a field as difficult to break into as the arts, glee club teacher Mr. Schuester used Joel as an example. He says Joel was, “a goofy looking kid who struggled for years in the music business,” but went onto become the third best-selling solo artist of all time.
One student hasn’t even heard of Joel and asks, “Who?” To which student Artie replies, “Oh, just a musical genius who sold over 150 million records worldwide.”
“Billy had to fight every step if the way in his career … but he ignored the haters,” Mr. Schue says.

The episode also featured the Joel songs “Piano Man,” “My Life,” “Honesty,” “An Innocent Man,” “Just the Way You Are” and “You May Be Right.”
