Alexa Ray Joel Sings 'Just the Way You Are' on 'Today'

Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of Sag Harbor’s Billy Joel and Bridgehampton’s Christie Brinkley, appeared on The Today Show Friday for an interview and to perform her father’s classic “Just the Way You Are.”

“Being the daughter of these two iconic figures, it took some growing into,” Joel admits, adding that she is an introvert at her core.

Today host and Hamptons resident Matt Lauer asks about how the 27-year-old uses her life story to empower other young women.

Joel recorded “Just the Way You Are” for the Gap “Back to Blue” advertising campaign. She previously performed her arrangement of her father’s song on Katie Couric‘s daytime talk show Katie.

Joel told Lauer that she decided to put her own spin on the song to truly honor her father. She said she was very proud of her father this week as he was awarded Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts honors.
