Independent Baseball League Seeks Name For New Hamptons Team
Just when you thought baseball was over, and the wait until pitchers and catchers report is longer than you’d hoped, a shining light in baseball news: Professional baseball is coming to the Hamptons. Maybe.
Dan Malley, Vice President of the Independent Professional Baseball League, has decided to bring a team to the East End, and he’s hoping area locals can help choose the name.
The Hamptons team would play in the Eastern Division of a newly created Independent Professional Baseball League, which launches this summer. Malley’s website and promotional materials also name it as the “Independent Baseball League” and “Hamptons Professional Baseball.”
“We’re more in the entertainment business than the sports business,” says Malley.
Though an exact location and name haven’t been chosen yet, Malley expects the team to begin play for the 2015 season, which runs from late June until just before Memorial Day. They plan to set up a temporary stadium that could be easily assembled and disassembled, but the site would need to have a few permanent structures, like fences.
Of course all of this depends on the IBL getting permission from its chosen municipality, and East End fans being willing to attend another schedule of games to go along with the already established Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.
That said, coming up with team names is always fun.
How about The Hamptons Hamptonites? The Hamptons Dans? The Hamptons Dunes? The Hamptons Idiot Spotters? The Hamptons Celebrities? Hamptons Bays?

Malley says the person who chooses his new franchise team’s name will win season tickets and team apparel.
