Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton is seeking art submissions for its upcoming Southampton Scenes: Art Show & Postcard Contest. The top 25 submissions will be displayed in a group exhibition at the library’s Madelle Semerjiian gallery in April, and five will be used to produce high quality postcards that will be distributed free of charge around Southampton Village.
The five winning works will also remain on view at the library for the 2014 summer season.
“We are seeking images that highlight the many remarkable places in and around the Village and Town of Southampton for newcomers and residents to visit,” the contest organizers explain in their announcement, suggesting pictures of shops, restaurants, historic sites, beaches and other desirable locations.
To be eligible for the contest, artists must be at least 16 years old and reside on the East End. Submissions can be in a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paint, watercolor, drawing, prints, mixed media and photography. Works may not exceed 26 inches wide or 28 inches tall—anything with larger dimensions will be rejected—and a $10 entry fee is required for each piece (maximum of three) submitted.
Rogers Memorial Library is accepting submissions electronically, via their website myrml.org, from January 1 to March 1, 2014. All submissions will be judged by a local panel of judges, including Southampton Historical Museum Director Tom Edmonds, well-known local artist Paton Miller and former Rogers Memorial Library Trustee Ellen Jo Myer.
