Hamptons Music Scene: Grammys and Going Green
The Grammys are this Sunday night, and the Hamptons will be well represented during the festivities. See what local stars will be taking the stage in Los Angeles, plus more music news rocking the East End.
• Water Mill’s Madonna, Amagansett’s Paul McCartney and Hamptons regular Beyoncé are slated to perform at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles this weekend. The ceremony airs Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.
• America’s favorite tap-dancing wolverine will return to Broadway early next year. Hamptons visitor Hugh Jackman is scheduled to head to the Great White Way in early 2015 with a role in The River, a show by Britain’s “Jez” Butterworth.
• Hamptons fan Jay-Z played a sold-out show at Nassau Coliseum last Sunday, and that’s not the end of his involvement with the Long Island venue. The hip-hop superstar, who’s participating in the Coliseum’s $229 million restoration, plans to bring artists from his label, Roc Nation, to the Coliseum—including Kanye West, who ends his “Yeezus” tour there on February 23.
• Music titan L. A. Reid, the Grammy-winning producer behind such artists as Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul and Justin Bieber, sold his posh 5,000 square foot condo at 515 Park Avenue to legendary Broadway producer Harold Prince for a cool $16.5 million. Reid’s Sagaponack home is currently on the market for $19 million.
• That was none other than Grammy winner Judy Carmichael dumping her cans, bottle and paper at the Sag Harbor Transfer Station last Thursday. A new year has given us a new reason to love Carmichael. She plays stride piano like no one else, tells jokes, sings, raises money for music scholarships…and she recycles!
