Finale in the Hamptons: 'How I Met Your Mother' Ends

The final episode of legendary CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother airs tonight, March 31, bringing to a close a nine-season series that mostly took place in Manhattan, but set many pivotal moments in the Hamptons.
In 2012, the producers of How I Met Your Mother contacted Dan’s Papers to request a few copies of recent issues. The show is filmed in Los Angeles, and in order to pull off a Hamptons-based scene they wanted Dan’s Papers to lend some authenticity. We didn’t know how exactly the issues would be featured in the show, but we were excited to be included in such a great television series.
In September of that year, during the eighth season premiere, a woman with Dan’s Papers poking out of her tote bag takes a seat on a bench next to protagonist Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) at the fictional Farhampton train station. By the end of that episode, it is revealed that Ted and The Mother, carrying her yellow umbrella, are destined to meet at that train station. All the while, Ted’s bench buddy is reading Dan’s Papers.
It wasn’t until the finale of the eighth season when The Mother’s face is finally revealed. She walks up to a LIRR counter to ask for “One ticket to Farhampton.”
Then the ninth season came, taking place over the course of Robin and Barney’s wedding weekend at the Farhampton Inn. So far this season, we’ve gotten to see a lot more of the mother, and even scenes of her future with Ted. But it won’t be until tonight’s final moments that we get to see Ted and The Mother lock eyes for the first time.
Will Ted’s bench buddy be there again tonight for the hour-long finale? Will that same issue of Dan’s Papers, from July 20, 2012, be featured again? Tune in at 8 p.m. to find out!
