Three Brush Fires Strike Southampton Town Wednesday Afternoon
Three separate brush fires broke out in Southampton Wednesday spread from one end of the town to the other.
First, at 12:40 p.m., a fire was reported near the Westhampton Transfer Station, by Old Country Road and Summit Boulevard. Then at 1 p.m., a fire was reported in Eastport, on the border of Southampton and Brookhaven towns, near Old Country Road and Tuttle Avenue.
The third fire happened in Bridgehampton on the grounds of the private Hayground School on Mitchells Lane, around 1:39 p.m. Various local volunteer fire departments extinguished each fire.
The Southampton Town fire marshal’s office is investigating the fires in Bridgehampton and Westhampton while the Eastport fire fell in another jurisdiction, according to Southampton Town Police Sgt. Michael Joyce.
