East Hampton Town Considers Purchase of 555 in Amagansett, Quelling Development Plans

The controversy over the potential for development of the largest residentially zoned vacant tract of land in Amagansett, known as Ocean View Farm, may soon be put to rest, as the Town of East Hampton is now considering buying the land through the Community Preservation Fund and keeping it as open space.

The latest iteration of a development plan there, called 555, was for market-rate senior housing.

The town wishes to buy the 18.9 acres designated 551 and 561 Montauk Highway for $10.2 million.

The East Hampton Town Board will have a public hearing on the purchase on April 17 at East Hampton Town Hall during a public meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m.

The parcel has served as the launch point for the annual Soldier Ride the Hamptons, an benefit bike ride for the Wounded Warrior Project.
