Matt Lauer Appears in Sharknado 2: The Second One
In possibly the best career move he’s ever made, since putting on a Baywatch swimsuit, Hamptons beardsman and Today show anchor Matt Lauer will be appearing in this summer’s biopic and Oscar-contender Sharknado 2: The Second One, premiering July 30 on SyFy.
This epic followup to SyFy’s hit film Sharknado takes place in New York City, putting Lauer and fellow Today anchor Al Roker (who have cameo roles) directly in the path of the titular tornado of sharks. The film, based on a harrowing true story, sees the return of superstars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid — who fell just short of Emmy contention for their performances in the original Sharknado — along with Vivica A. Fox, Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath, fashion cop Kelly Osbourne, 30-Rock alum Judah Friedlander, what-am-I-doing-here actor Judd Hirsch, gossip celeb Perez Hilton and the Hamptons’ own visiting Sharknado Andy Dick. Director of the first Sharknado film, Anthony Ferrante, also returns for the sequel.
For its first onscreen appearance Sharknado wreaked havoc in Los Angeles, but now, according to the Associated Press, the freak storm has found its way to the East Coast, where it dumps sharks on the population at iconic locations, such as Citi Field, home of the Mets (it’s a good thing no one is ever there).
Here’s hoping Lauer can convince SyFy to bring its inevitable third film, Sharknado 3, to the Hamptons — what do you say, Matt?
Take a look at this trailer for the original Sharknado to see what’s in store for New York… We’d say the sequel is a can’t-miss summer film.
