Southampton Town bay constables report saving a surfer who waves had pushed very close to the Shinnecock Inlet jetty, putting him in danger, on Sunday afternoon.
According to authorities, the 15-year-old boy from Hampton Bays had been surfing on the east side of the inlet, off Shinnecock East County Park. After breaking surf sent him close to the jetty, he was unable to paddle to open water or the beach.
A fisherman on the east jetty noticed the surfer and hailed a boater, who in turn radioed bay constables. Bay Constables picked up the teen and his surfboard and brought him to Oakland’s Marina, where he was picked up by a parent. He was reportedly uninjured.
