East Hampton Police Investigate Possible Drowning at Sammy's Beach
James A. Weber, a 45-year-old East Hampton resident, was pulled from the water at Sammy’s Beach on Sunday night and later pronounced dead, according to East Hampton Town police.
Authorities are investigating if Weber drowned or if there was another cause of death. Police said two men at Maidstone Park Beach saw Weber collapse in the water at the west side of Three Mile Harbor Inlet. They swam to him and took him out of the water. He was unconscious, so they initiated CPR and continued until emergency personnel arrived, police said.
Weber was transported to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Town police detectives and the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 631-537-7575.
